Feng Shui Decorating Tips For Your Home

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art, and the words mean “wind-water”.  It is associated with good health and good luck which are the aim of Feng Shui decorating in a house. It hopefully makes the home look nicer and a home that is Feng Shui’d is hopefully more peaceful and harmonious. The flow of good energy or chi throughout the home is another important objective of Feng Shui. The purpose of this article is to give you some of the basics of Feng Shui decorating and let you determine if it’s something you might want to try in your home.

Decluttering

Decluttering is the first step to achieving Feng Shui in your house. It must be thoroughly done and hiding your stuff isn’t enough.  Remember you want to achieve good energy flow in the house and stuffing things in one place away from the others isn’t effective. When decluttering, make sure you keep only the items you love or need. All the old and unused things should go. Clear out all closets, under the beds, tables, and chairs. If your bookcases and closets are overloaded, they are affecting the flow of chi, and you should declutter them.

Thorough Air and light flow

Wind and light must move well in the house to ensure a constant flow of good energy throughout the home. After decluttering, now proceed to open the windows to maximize air flow. Keep all the mirrors and glass clean to increase light movement in the house. If there are dark spots inside the house, add a lamp to help illuminate the spot or use a mirror to reflect the light from another spot.

Add plants

As much as air flow is important in Feng Shui, the air must be pure all the times. Incorporating plants in the home helps filter the air naturally creating a healthier and cleaner environment. Due to their life force, healthy plants also attract good, vibrant chi energy, which is important in Feng Shui.

Add favorite colors

Colors can be added in different ways besides just painting. Try adding colors with decorative objects to activate the energy associated with them. Your favorite colors add energy to the home because they help you feel warm and vibrant when you enter the room. Different colors enable different energy:

  • Red- wealth and luck
  • Purple- high spirituality
  • Yellow- power and mental simulation
  • Orange- fun, and happiness

Avoid dark colors as much as you can.

Yin and Yang

Everything according to Feng Shui is composed of two opposing and connected forces. Yin the feminine and Yang the masculine. These two balance dark and light, night and day and they can’t exist without the other. Create a balance with your décor by applying this concept to your home.

These are the basics of Feng Shui, and there’s so much more to it. Feng Shui also includes elements, numbers, directions and more.

Hopefully this introduction to Feng Shui will help you find ways to make your home more of a pleasure to live in. Perhaps if you take some action and get some momentum going you will surprise yourself and soon find your home transformed into a harmonious masterpiece.
